Report AdDhaka Medical College (DMC) holds the distinction of being Bangladesh's inaugural medical college, founded on July 10, 1946. The original edifice of DMC predates the partition of Bengal in 1905. Currently, Bangladesh boasts 37 government and 72 private medical colleges offering MBBS programs to both local and international students. These medical colleges are affiliated with seven universities, with four being governmental and the remaining three private. Professional examinations are conducted by the respective universities in accordance with the guidelines and regulations stipulated by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Government of Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC) serves as the regulatory body overseeing MBBS education in Bangladesh. It is mandatory for all medical colleges to be affiliated with BM&DC. Both the Ministry of Health and BM&DC exercise strict supervision over all medical colleges across Bangladesh.
